Inergen is an inert gas and extinguishes the fire by depletion the oxygen, posing no damage to equipment, and most importantly not imposing any harmful effects on human life. It consists of 52% Nitrogen, 40% Argon and 8% Carbon Dioxide, these are also the gases in the air that we normally breathe in.
Firetec's engineered INERGEN® system is a 300 bar inert gaseous fire suppression system, a total flooding system for category A machinery spaces, pump rooms, control rooms, E-Gen rooms and other enclosed spaces. It is an excellent agent for use in rooms with electrical or electronic equipment.
Inergen is stored as a gas in steel cylinders. The cylinders are mounted on a supporting rack inside or outside the protected space. The cylinders in a multiple cylinder system are connected to a manifold through hoses, for a distribution piping network to discharge the gas by nozzles. It is possible to protect multiple areas with one cylinder bank, the system can be fitted with manual or electrical release.
Beside onshore, the system can be applied on marine and offshore vessels. The system is designed in accordance with the regulatory requirement: SOLAS Ch. II-2, IMO MSC/Circ.848 & 1267 and IMO Code for Mobile Offshore Drilling Units. It also has the approval from UL, FM and other national authorities. Inergen is approved according to NFPA 2001 as a Halon gas alternative.
